Growing Your Business: Creating Great Content
If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!
People frequently ask me how I'm able to create so much content for this blog. My readers know that my content is unique and it takes a lot of energy to create it. Everywhere that I go, every time that I have a meeting, every person who I talk to, every idea that we kick around, becomes potential fodder for this blog. I take notes and I write down ideas on little scraps of paper. These ideas frequently come from situations that I am exposed to as I go through my days. It takes a lot of energy to create brand new material.

Growing Your Business: It's Not Business As Usual
These are tough economic times. There are some people who are using the "R" word. There are other people who are using the "D" word. I don't know if we're in a recession or a depression, but what I do know is that many people are starting to have a hard time and that this economy is taking its toll on many people.

I'm in the money business, and have spent many, many years developing relationships with financial professionals — people who work both in corporate finance as well as those who service individuals. What I know about the money business is that the closer you get to the dollar, the more money you make. And when lots of dollars are at stake, beware because the sharks come out.

There are certain little words that people use that I find very revealing. Some of these little colloquialisms are the subject for another day. But one word in particular deserves its own entry in this blog.

Sometimes the best well-intentioned plans don't work out as you expect, and in every case, it's necessary to debrief and regroup. And sometimes you even have to go back to the drawing board. This process is a critical one for businesses because when the best-laid plans don't work out the way that you expect, you have to learn from the experience that you had and create new plans and strategies based on the parts that worked and modifying the parts that didn't work. But be careful not to "throw the baby out with the bathwater."

Growing Your Business: Boom Time for Entrepreneurs
These difficult economic times are opening up doors for entrepreneurs that have never been opened before. Corporate America is shedding its excess weight at a pace that we haven't seen in years, and this shedding process will open opportunities for entrepreneurs who are sharp and who take action now.

Growing Your Business: The People Who Get You Into Trouble Usually Can't Get You Out Of It
From time to time companies find themselves in desperate situations. Management or the board of directors might make some series of judgment calls that don't go its way, or worse, make a series of mistakes that take the company down the bunny hole. When this happens, it's critical to take specific steps to get out of trouble.

Growing Your Business: Which Part Is The Hard Part?
I don't know if you've ever noticed this, but marketers and sellers usually tell stories that leave out most of the important pieces that you need to be successful. What a shock.

Growing Your Business: Walk The Walk
It's always shocking to me when I run across people who don't "walk the walk" and "talk the talk" that they promote to others. I regularly come across people who say one thing but do another, or even worse, do nothing. I likewise try to apply this rule to myself — sometime more successfully than others.

Growing Your Business: Don't Do It All By Yourself
I met a guy last night who is in the radio business. The guy works on audio files, multimedia files, video, etc. When I overheard him talking with some other people about mixing some music and other material, I felt compelled to ask him a question. I had been having a problem with operating a piece of software related to his line of work.
