Growing Your Business: Opportunity And Initiative
Every once in a while, you see somebody spot an opportunity and take the initiative to address it in a way that is different from everybody else. There is some sparkle that some people bring to bear, which provides them with rewards that were there for the taking, but that everybody else left on the table.

Growing Your Business: Thirsty Horses
One of the main problems that I notice in business owners is that they generally don't understand the difference between sales and marketing. In fact, I recently had a client who hired a successful VP of Marketing away from a competitor to be his National VP of Sales. But in this new role, the poor guy failed miserably. My client could not understand why a success story in one firm could fail so prolifically in his. I saw the issue in 20 seconds:

I had the rare opportunity to meet such a company in the last several months.

The 90-Second Rule
Have you ever sat through a presentation where someone was trying to sell something to you and it droned on and on for such an extended period of time that you nearly fell asleep? Unfortunately, I've sat through my fair share of these types of presentations, and as a result of being the recipient of this type of talk, I've developed the 90-second rule to help prevent the awful results that are received when somebody rambles on.

Growing Your Business: Are You Ready?
This week, I received a phone call from a company on the East coast that wanted to sell me a service. I'm generally very easy going when it comes to receiving phone calls. Even if I don't recognize the phone number, I'll almost always answer it, and if it's a salesperson, I'll generally give them the time of day that they need to give their pitch or presentation to me.

Growing Your Business: What Is Technology, Really?
I am tremendously confused. I don't have any idea anymore what technology is. I went to college in the early 1980s; I got my first job in the middle 80's and really cut my teeth in my career in the late 80's. That's when I first started making my money.

12 Critical Strategies For Improving Sales
I love selling. I love everything about selling. This might sound strange to some people but I love helping people to solve their problems. That is the true nature of sales. When people have difficulties in business or in their personal life, and someone has the ability to help them, it is only one's ability to sell the solution that enables the problem to be solved. I love reading about selling, I love learning about selling and I love getting better at the art that I respect so much.
