Do You Want Google To Find You?

Many professionals and other people who I know have very few references that point to them on Google. For whatever reason they fail to write articles or publish papers that make it into the enormous catalog that makes up Google.

I regularly advise people to increase the volume of their Google references by publishing and producing material for at least two reasons. First, the population at large (your potential clients) can find you easier the more Google entries you have; and secondly, there is a certain perception about the value that you bring to your end-user population based on the number of entries that are found in Google. Somehow your competence and your credentials are reinforced by having a significant Google presence.

So, what's the easiest way to create a Google presence?

My clients know that because of my blog and because I have columns in various Internet newspapers, that I effectively have the keys to the backdoor of Google. Anything that I publish lands on Google within five minutes.

Sometimes, if my colleagues produce articles that are excellent, I will run those articles inside of my blog or inside of my columns. I do that when I believe that my readers will find great value in that material. But, what if you don't have an article that makes sense for me to run inside of my materials?

Unbelievably, the fastest and easiest way for you to get yourself instantly recognized by Google is to provide comments on other people's blogs. If you write a comment at the bottom of this blog entry, you will be picked up nearly immediately by Google. If you get in the habit of writing comments regularly, those comments will be found easily by Google and your numbers will begin to add up.

Make sure that you use your e-mail signature, including your name, address, and phone numbers at the conclusion of your comments if you want people to find you easily. Get in a habit of making comments; comment on this piece. Review past entries that I have written and comment on those too. The more comments you make, the faster and the bulkier your Google profile will become. It's an easy trick that will work for you like a charm.

Joel is absolutely correct. We blog on the Eco lighting topic and other environmentally friendly issues. http://adgwebnet.com/greenwordpress/ helps to increase our traffic. We even have open space for people to comment. We comment on other blogs as well like the http://www.valleygbtf.com/ Thanks Joel for putting the word out.

Excellent point, Joel. Although I've read the newletters of many "gurus" I've yet to see any of them address this important topic. Who knew that getting greater coverage by Google could involve such a simple act as commenting on blogs. Thank you!

Joel, simply truths! We all say we work hard, it doesn't mean we work hard doing the things that have the greatest return on time spent.

Thanks Joel,
I found you on twitter and read this post. Its amazing how this world is encompassed by how many comments and how many followers one has in the digital world.

Many of my friends (and I'm in the late 20s) are still hesitant to put their face on the web. There is this idea that once they put their name and face on a webpage, everyone will pinpoint them and who they are and profile them.

It took me a few years, as I was a webmaster hiding behind the scenes of the website. But then I realized, what am I hiding? I want people not only to find my websites selling products or services, BUT TO FIND ME! and then that is the real power. To have influence and involvement in the products or services you sell.

to show the passion you have for it, and that you PERSONALLY back it up by putting your face on the product.

I guess that takes an initial LEAP of faith, but if you are confident in your product / serivce, as well as yourself, you will do fine.

Thanks for your post
Mike

This tip is really a useful one for someone who is trying to establish an online presence. I will definitely be responding to various blogs from now on. I have done this on occasion, but until now I was unaware of the importance of doing so. thanks

Joel, I heard you speak at Gina's seminar a couple of years ago and agree that getting into Google's eye is essential. I still have not made money on line and lost plenty. So, your comments give me hope and excitement about promotion with an article. But I am unsure just where and how to post them. Any help from anyone?

Thanks for your post and encouragement
Virginia

Thank you for advice Joel! I have been trying to get Google to see my business without using the direct approach (clapboardvideo.com) in the search page but using search keywords instead. It's been an uphill battle. I will try some of the things you mentioned here. Thanks again!
